As spring unfolded in Austin, Texas, I had the honor of partnering with the City of Austin's Parks and Recreation Department on a unique project. Our collaboration included creating custom stock photography, with one particularly memorable assignment being the historic Oakwood Cemetery. This site, with its rich history dating back to 1839, not only preserves the past but also offers a serene escape for nature lovers eager to witness blooming bluebonnets in all their glory.
Photographing Oakwood Cemetery was a fascinating experience, to say the least. One day stands out vividly: joined by my father, a fellow photographer, and my adventurous 7-year-old son, we found ourselves immersed amidst the vibrant bluebonnets scattered across the cemetery's tranquil landscape.
Located in the heart of Austin, Oakwood Cemetery is more than just a historical landmark; it's a living testament to the city's past and a stunning blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. As we wandered through its peaceful grounds, history seemed to come alive around us, lending a poignant backdrop to every photograph we captured.
This photoshoot was part of an 8-part series commissioned by the Austin Department of Parks and Recreation, celebrating the diverse beauty of Austin's parks and landmarks.
